Welcome to the Pasadena Intermediate School parent and caregiver portal. As schools begin adopting the new curriculum, schools are moving away from traditional reports to online reporting. An OLE allows parents to monitor *and* optionally interact with their childs learning.

This portal provides access into your childs Online Learning Envronment (OLE). The NZ Ministry of Education is actively promoting the development of OLE's as a pivitol tool for use with the new curriculum. [Curriculum is madatory for Primary schools from 2010].

With the new curriculum in place, education in the classroom is undergoing change. The focus is moving from *teaching* to *learning*. What does this mean? Schools have entered a new paradigm. Change can often prompt debate, questions and concerns. Many caregivers understanding of education and what schools should provide is based on their own experience and understanding. Logs ... provide a powerful environment for both teachers and parents to observe, monitor and guide learning. Logs reflect learning, developing understandings, help identify obstacles, and highlight successes.

Journals .... an environment where parents/ whanau/ caregivers can see quite clearly the learner’s dispositions towards their learning, their relationship with their friends, their teachers and their thoughts about how they see themselves.

Next? . The ministry is actively exploring 'how' to provide online access to teachers assessment and evaluations. School traditionally provide written reports for parents. The Online world is changing the way people expect to access information.

An OLE is a highly effective tool for supporting school-home partnerships. In many ways an OLE provides a 21st century gateway between school and home. An OLE allows children to bridge the gap between the work they do at school and their life at home.

It gives parents timely access to information about their child’s learning and it provides a powerful vehicle for conversations about learning. It also enables busy parents and children to interact on a regular basis about learning.

An OLE is a key classroom component for use with the new curriculum, and in 21st century classrooms.
